FAVA Referee Program

In line with our community culture, our “Football Against Verbal Abuse” (FAVA) Referee Program is offered each season for the MiniRoos Home Games (8s – 12s).

The aim of this program is to encourage older Club players to gain valuable refereeing experience and earn some pocket money! This allows parents of MiniRoos players to watch their children play, instead of being rostered to referee.

Julian Ku is our Club Sponsored Referee. When he hasn’t been called away to referee Junior matches at short notice, he is instrumental in mentoring our young referees, offering tips on how to deal with tricky situations and how to better officiate on the pitch.

FAVA Referees can be any Subiaco AFC player in the 13s-18s age groups providing they hold a valid FW Referee Laws of the Game Certificate.

Miniroos Team Managers

If your 8s-12s Team would like to have a FAVA referee rostered to referee your home game please opt-in by emailing favaref@subiacosoccer.asn.au.

You will need to pay the FAVA referee $20 at the start of your match (approx. $2 per player, per week).

You will be sent the details of your FAVA Referee on the Thursday or Friday prior to each home match.

FAVA Referees

Any 13s-18s Subiaco AFC players interested in being a FAVA Referee for 2024 will need to hold a valid FW Referee Laws of the Game Certificate and opt-in by emailing favaref@subiacosoccer.asn.au.

Successful FAVA Referees will be provided a Club referee shirt, which is to be returned at the end of the season.

Please note: Subiaco AFC players will be prioritised as referees.

At each match FAVA Referees must:

  • Bring a whistle, pencil and stopwatch;
  • Wear impartial shorts and socks (ie no Club kit); and
  • Familiarise themselves with the modified rules appropriate to the level of MiniRoos match they are refereeing.

Football West Referees

Football West (FW) tries to allocate referees for all junior and senior games, including cups and finals. Subiaco AFC player registration fees for junior and Sunday league competitions include referee fees.

Notice of whether a match has been allocated a FW referee can be found on the Squadi app.

If no FW Referee has been allocated, or if the FW Referee does not show 10mins before kick-off time, the home team is responsible for providing a referee. A whistle and assistant referee flags are available from the clubhouse, which are to be returned promptly after your game.

Team Managers are responsible for providing one assistant referee at every home AND away game, who must report to the referee prior to the start of the match. The Roles and Responsibilities of an Assistant Referee document provides guidelines and instructions which may be useful.
