For the last nine years, the Subiaco AFC U15s top-tier team has been offered the opportunity to compete in two international youth football tournaments. These are “Cup No. 1” held in Denmark and the prestigious Gothia Cup, billed as the “World Youth Cup”, held in Gothenburg, Sweden. This year the tournament runs from the 17-23 July providing a fantastic opportunity for our local talented football players to represent their club and Australia on a world stage.
The Gothia Tour comprises two weeks of international youth football. For the first week, the Cup No. 1 is held in Frederikshavn, Denmark, where our team is treated like royalty hosted by our sister club and their families. The second week is spent in Gothenburg for the “big one” – the Gothia Cup. It is the world’s largest international youth football tournament with around 1,600 teams from 80 nations participating, giving it a truly international spirit. For the young footballers fortunate enough to participate in it, the tournament and the tour are the stuff of which dreams and memories of a life time are made.
Over the next four months our Gothia Tour team will be fundraising to help subsidise the cost of the tour. Please be sure to check into the Rosalie Park Canteen and Cake Stall at home matches starting in April.
